Fall is right around the corner and I like to celebrate things with haiku.

October is the busiest month of the year for family portrait photographers, and it's entirely because of the extraordinary color nature presents.  The days are often sunny, dry, and chilly enough for scarves and sweaters.  it's a beautiful time.

Every year the colors peak at different times and it varies throughout the country.  I find these forecasts to be tremendously helpful in scouting locations and determining timing for places that aren't a quick drive down the street.  If you are planning family pictures this fall or want to do a fall color road trip, I hope you'll find these links helpful.

Washington residents, you can call the state's fall foliage hotline (1-800-354-4595) for information about what's happening with color.  I wouldn't kid you about this.

The U.S. Forest Service monitors and reports on the progress of color for regions throughout the country.

There's a neat About.com page that covers fall foliage for each state.

Weather.com forecasts peak color for the west, midwest, northeast, and southeast regions.

As for Washington, peak color is usually the middle of October.  I'm an email away when you are ready to book your session.
